The B1 or B2 visitor visa is a nonimmigrant visa for foreign citizens wishing to enter the United States temporarily for business (B1, Business Travel Visa) or for pleasure or medical treatment (B2, Tourist Visa). They are good for short-term visits of up to one year and are often issued together as a B1/B2 Visa.
The B1 visa is designed for travelers attending business or professional conferences or conventions, consulting with business associates, negotiating contracts, purchasing goods or materials, appearing as a witness in court trials, or undertaking independent research.
The B-2 visa is for travel that is recreational in nature, including tourism, visits with friends or relatives, medical treatment, and activities of a fraternal, social or service nature.
Applicants for a B1 business or B2 tourist visa must show that they qualify for such a visa.
